Jon Cryer born Jonathan Niven Cryer on April 16, 1965, is an American actor, writer, director, and producer. He is currently 56 years old. He made his debut in motion picture as a teenage photographer in the 1984 romantic comedy No Small Affair. He is most known though for his roles in the John Hughes written film Pretty in Pink (1986) and in the CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men (2003). The actor stands at a height of 5 feet 9 inches.

Jon Cryer was born in New York City, United States. He was born into a show family with both parents in the entertainment industry, no surprise he followed suit and while quite young. His father, Donald David Cryer, is an actor and singer. His mother, Gretchen Kiger, is an actress, playwright, songwriter and singer. Cryer’s paternal grandfather, Reverend Donald W. Cryer, was a Methodist minister. Cryer has just two sisters; Robin and Shelly. He is of mixed European ethnicity.

Though Cryer decided really young to become an actor, his parents thought he should have a plan B. So, he schooled at Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Training Center for several summers as a teenager. In 1983, he graduated from Bronx High School of Science. He had been classmates with screenwriter and film director Boaz Yakin. After High School, Cryer chooses not to go to College. Instead, he attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, for a summer course in Shakespeare.

Cryer decided to become an actor at the young age of 8 though he only started acting in his teens. His first acting role was in the Broadway play Torch Song Trilogy. He had his first lead role as ‘Charles Cummings’ in the 1984 romantic comedy movie No Small Affair, at the age of 19. Cryer acted several other minor roles in movies and TV shows.

His big hit came as Philip F. ‘Duckie’ in the romantic comedy film Pretty Pink in 1986. He apparently became a teen sweetheart as his mother mentioned in an interview that she started getting several calls from teenage girls from across various countries, wishing to speak with him. In the same year, he made his debut on television as ‘Phil’ in the science fiction horror fantasy ‘Amazing Stories’.

In 1996, He made his debut as a writer in the movie The Pompatus of Love. Cryer has earned two Emmy Awards for his work as Alan Harper in CBS’ hit comedy Two and a Half Men; most recently in the Lead Actor category and previously winning in the Supporting category.
